Invert retrograde
Figure: Invert retrograde

invert retrograde plays a retrograde offset variant of invert on an alto saxophone. The invert retrograde figure shows the score.

An invert retrograde melody is a melody that has been inverted and reversed.

A retrograde melody always changes the rhythm. It does not matter whether the retrograde variant is inverted or uninverted, the rhythm will still be fundamentally different. Consequently, a bit of tweaking is in order. invert retrograde has been tweaked in exactly the same way as retrograde by offsetting the melody half a bar.

Invert and reverse can be undertaken in any order. You can invert first then reverse, or revert then inverse, the result will be the same.
